Reflect

Five questions for prayer, conversation, and discernment.

This week's reflection: Christian love is not simply a feeling to admire, but a life to examine and practice. Use one question each day to slow down, listen to the Spirit, and consider how the love of Christ is being formed in you.

How does understanding that our ability to love comes from God's transformative work rather than our own effort change the way we approach loving difficult people in our lives?

Pause: Name one relationship where you need God's love to work through you rather than your own strength.

In what ways have you experienced the tension between knowing you should love others and feeling unable to do so in your own strength? How does the truth that we have passed from death to life speak into that struggle?

Notice: Where have you seen even a small sign that God is making you more loving?

The sermon describes the shape of Christian love as being defined by the cross. What does it practically look like to lay down your life for your brothers and sisters in everyday circumstances?

Consider: What time, comfort, resource, or attention might love ask you to give this week?

How does the contrast between Cain and Abel in 1 John 3 challenge our understanding of the seriousness of hatred or indifference toward fellow believers?

Examine: Is there anyone you have quietly dismissed, avoided, resented, or ignored?

When your heart condemns you for failing to love as you ought, how can you apply the truth that God is greater than your heart and use those moments as opportunities for growth rather than shame?

Receive: Let conviction lead you to confession and growth, not condemnation and hiding.

After reflection, move into prayer and practice as we ask the Spirit to form the love of Christ in our life together.
